This model of couples therapy thoroughly addresses the deeper childhood hurts and associated defenses which both people bring into the relationship. Unless these wounds and defenses are clearly identified and compassionately understood by each partner, the likelihood of any significant or permanent improvement is minimal. This is because most unhealthy relationship dynamics and negative behavior patterns are directly related to the ways, however small, each person was hurt or wounded growing up (i.e. neglected, abandoned, dominated, used, excluded, rejected, smothered, shamed, ignored, suppressed, controlled, devalued, deprived, depleted, unloved, etc.)
Counseling modalities which focus on resolving differences through mediation techniques and other more surface-level interventions generally do not have the power to engender deep and lasting change. That is why most attempts at couples therapy often achieve only limited or temporary results or fail completely.
As part of the relationship counseling program I offer, I utilize the best-selling, Oprah-recommended book by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. entitled Getting The Love You Want. This book and accompanying workbook take a couple step-by-step through a series of powerfully healing exercises. If both partners are totally committed to completing the exercises and are willing to be open and fully engaged in our weekly couples sessions, the outcome can be truly transformational.  What has the potential to emerge is a conscious relationship grounded in the energies of personal responsibility, honesty, openness, understanding, empathy, compassion and an ever deepening experience of emotional and physical intimacy, connection and LOVE.
I would like to invite you to an introductory appointment. I will be happy to share more with you about the program and answer any questions you may have.  There is no charge for this initial meeting if you decide not to continue. If you have been disappointed with the results of previous relationship therapy, I encourage you to explore this approach, which has helped thousands of couples all over the world.
